Dogs
There are two sizes.
• A4. Head portrait. Guide price £300. These give lovely little head studies, like the drawings of Scruffy & Minnie.
• A3. Large head & bust study/or full sitting. Guide price £450. These provide a substantial framed drawing, in some cases, like Thea the whippet, almost life size or Nellie.
These prices are indicative. I like to work with clients’ on their specific requirements, which are often determined by the character of the dog and the reference photographs provided. I will then confirm what I think works for the best results. I will provide a final price confirmation when the commission is fully understood and has been agreed.
All dog portraits are drawn using Sanderson Waterford archival quality 300g hot pressed watercolour paper, made from 100% cotton, the highest quality paper making material.
For how to take good reference photos, please refer the attached file.
Houses
My house portraits are all drawn ‘en plein air’ and so require me to come to site. It is important to understand the building’s orientation and timing of the light on its façades. The projects are usually completed on site, although sometimes they are completed in my studio, using my reference sketches and photographs.
Commissioning, size and pricing is by arrangement. Typically:
• A4. London house portrait. Guide price £450-£650. Example
• A3. Larger country houses. Start at £1,000 per drawing, plus travel costs. Example
Often, I will be asked to do a series of views, for example
All house portraits are drawn using a Roberson & Co acid free 300g hot pressed watercolour paper, made from 100% cotton, example Last. Drawings can be in either L.Cornelissen & Son French sepia ink or an Indian ink and Windsor & Newton monochrome wash, as an example, Leigh house.
If you send me an initial photograph of the views you would like captured, and address, I can research the orientation and we can discuss how best to approach the project.
Special Commissions
My Special Commissions can include significant locations and buildings for any number of occasions and milestones that a client wishes to celebrate (birthdays, weddings, retirements, christenings, favourite holiday places etc). The drawings tend to be on a single A3 sheet of paper, although they can be a series of individually framed pictures.
The single A3 drawings are a series of vignettes, or a main drawing, with some smaller drawings surrounding the main image and composed in a montage. They can also have a personal message, handwritten within the picture, noting the event and date. I have also done other personal touches, like putting the bride & groom’s initials on the flag flying over a building.
Ideally, I prefer to draw them ‘en plein air’ although on the vignettes, I can work from reference photographs and other research material, so I do not always have to go to site, which can keep the cost down.
It is vital that I work very closely with a client on these ‘story boards’, to agree their bespoke requirements. As such, pricing has to be confirmed on agreeing the brief, however, typically:
• Depending on size, each separate drawing is £750-£950. An example of a series of four pictures is Last, in South West France (comprising 2 x A3 and 2 x A4 pen & ink drawings). Total project £3,500.
• For a single A3 drawing of four or five vignettes, composed in a montage, allow £450-£500 per sketch if located in or near London. An example is ‘A wedding in London’. Total project £1,800-£2,000.
Each commission is drawn using the most appropriate paper, either Roberson & Co or Sanderson Waterford. Drawings can be in either my L.Cornelissen & Son French sepia ink, or an Indian ink and Windsor & Newton monochrome wash. The choice is the clients, and I can help advise.
If you send me initial photographs of the project and the buildings’ addresses, I can research them and we can then discuss how best to approach the project. On these projects it is vital to have as much lead-in time as possible, ideally two months.
